Presented by a former dancer and physiotherapist, this intensive course is designed to address the growing need for physical therapists to expand their practice potential into the performing arts world. Market your practice and increase your studio or clinic productivity by adding the treatment of dancers to your studio or clinic offerings. A comprehensive program will be presented which will include: screening, performance enhancement through training and nutrition, multiple dance discipline attention, current exercise and methods for common dance problems, Pilates Environment training, and Well-Being program management spanning pre-professional, professional as well as recreational performers.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the physical effects of overuse involving training, rehearsal, and performance
- Describe the physical impact of the environment upon dancers, such as flooring, lights, temperature, travel -issues
- Perform a screening evaluation for both pre-professionals and professionals
- Better understand the types of hypermobility and how to apply injury prevention
- Set up a recommended training program based upon the individual and /or type of dance
- Perform an ongoing re-assessment evaluation
- Describe a dancer’s nutritional needs
- Learn to identify common dance injuries
- Develop treatment and exercise plans for these common injuries.
- Plan dance-specific repertoire in the Pilates environment.
- Set up and market a dancer well-being program
